It is being revealed that “the Chinese lip-syncing app your children love, but you have never heard of”  now it has become a threat.

TikTok - also known by Douyin means ''vibrating sound''. It stands for developing and sharing 15 sec short cut videos. this app was was launched as Douyin in China in 2016 and then spread to overseas market and 1 year later it got renamed as TikTok now it is top most short clip platform in Asia, the wiki sources say it has been downloaded for about 80 million times in the United States, and more than 800 million times in the world.

● India, High Court and Supreme Court PIL ruling
Days back on April 4 2019, the Madras High Court on hearing a PIL has apealed the government to totally ban tiktok application and further added that this app encouraged inapropriate content. Moreover court also noted that children using this app were at high risk of being targeted under sexual predators. By this the court revealed to media as not to telecast any of those videos retrieved  from this app. In contrast spokesperson for Tiktok revealed that they were abiding by local laws and were awaiting the copy of the court order before they take action. Today the  matter will be challanged in Supreme Court of India.


● What encourages ban in Jammu & kashmir

By ongoing actions of users in kashmir using this application a spark of hate speech, vulgarism, and drugs are seen promoting.

The emmense hate speech is trying to degeneralize the communities on behalf of rural and urban areas. Many seem using this app to break unity among youngesters living in both Urban/Rural areas. As one among them is considered either superior or inferior in the  perception of young folk falling under age group of 13-20 or more, who later spread hate by using this app as a tool. This could result into social discrimination and cultural degradation of people on the basis of caste, colour, occupation, residience, and education. The app is many times being used as a tool to draw fire and frustration, hate, drugs and the same is later shared on other social networking sites.
However this app is still working in kashmir but it ll take less time till the issue reaches to authorities and reputed civil society members in case if the scenario remains same. Although other states have already appealed to ban this app.

#1 TamilNadu

M Manikandan who is current Info tech minister declared that the state government would appeal the Centre government to ban Tik Tok.  While in a debate on budget, it was revealed that TikTok was degrading culture and encouraging pornography, which causes trouble in law and order and  the state needs to ban it immediately.

#2 Indonesia Ban

Indonesia temporarily blocked the app on 3 July 2018 due to some legal public issues public related to illegal content amid pornography. It was later unblocked after 1 by making various changes under the app. Negative  content was removed, opening a government liaison office, made age restrictions and developed mechanisim for strict security.

#3 United States

As per the mind set of some US elites and politicians, revealed the more popular chinese product, either TikTok or Huawei, the greater the threat. As they  challenge US technological hegemony.

The US on the other side has defined China as a strategic or hoodwink competitor, having perception that everything developed by China will be used by the Chinese authority against the US. This will put the US under increasing psychological stress. The authorities also claim tik tok like app retrieved their child information.

#4  U.S fines

Recently the FTC fined TikTok in millions amid collecting information from minor children as it  violated the Children's (OPP) Online Privacy Protection Act in the United States. ByteDance responded that they will add kids-only mode in TikTok.



● Discussion

By looking at the above issues and concerns it could be predicted that a serious action need to be taken in order to maintain cultural and moral values of people and places. if by any means it proves non benificial for the world societies in any way then it should definitely be banned.

This app has targeted children under 13 to 22 years of age group. They must not get diverted in anyway when it comes to their social, economic, cultural and moral values. In order to maintain social order and security a well planed stratagy is imperative to bring issues under limelight and children towards mainstream.
